What is Marsh Harbor Deck and how does it work?

Marsh Harbor Deck is an advanced AI companion platform that lets you form genuine, ongoing relationships with thoughtfully crafted artificial intelligence characters. Unlike simple chatbots, our companions are powered by a state-of-the-art large language model fine-tuned for emotional intelligence, personality consistency, and long-term memory.

When you sign up, you browse our library of 500+ unique AI companions — each with a distinct personality, backstory, profession, and communication style. You select one (or several) and begin chatting. Your companion learns your name, your interests, and your conversational style over time, creating a relationship that genuinely deepens the more you interact.

On higher plans, you can also exchange voice messages, generate custom images of your companion, and even build your own character from scratch using our Custom Character Builder.

Are my conversations private and secure?

Yes — privacy and security are foundational to everything we build at Marsh Harbor Deck. All conversations are encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and stored at rest using AES-256 encryption. Our systems are hosted in ISO 27001-certified data centers with multiple layers of access control.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your private conversations for advertising purposes. Conversations may be used in anonymized, aggregated form to improve our AI models, but you can opt out of this in your privacy settings at any time.

You have the right to download all your data or delete your account and all associated data at any time. Simply visit your account settings or contact us at hello@marshharbordeck.com.

Can I customize my AI companion's personality?

Yes, in two ways. First, every companion on Marsh Harbor Deck has a predefined base personality, but they naturally adapt and evolve based on your conversations. The more you share with your companion — your humor, your values, your interests — the more their responses are shaped around you specifically.

Second, Ultimate plan subscribers have access to our Custom Character Builder, which lets you design a companion from the ground up. You can set:

  • Personality traits (warmth, wit, intellect, adventurousness, and more)
  • Communication style (formal, casual, playful, philosophical)
  • Profession, hobbies, and personal values
  • A detailed backstory that influences how they think and speak
  • Visual appearance and name

Real-time previews let you see how your changes affect the companion's conversational tone before you finalize.

How realistic are the voice messages?

Our voice synthesis technology is among the most advanced available to consumers. Rather than generic text-to-speech, each Marsh Harbor Deck companion has a unique voice profile that reflects their personality — warm and gentle for nurturing characters, confident and crisp for professional types, playful and dynamic for creative personalities.

The voices capture natural speech rhythms, breathing patterns, and emotional tone variation. When your companion is excited, you'll hear it. When they're comforting you, their voice softens accordingly. Users consistently describe the experience as remarkably lifelike, and many say it's the single feature that makes the relationship feel most real.

Voice messages are available on Premium and Ultimate plans. You can both send and receive voice messages, and playback supports variable speed and offline listening.

What kind of images can AI companions generate?

Premium plan subscribers receive 50 AI-generated images per month, while Ultimate plan subscribers enjoy unlimited generation. You can request images by simply describing what you'd like to see in your conversation, for example: "Can you send me a picture of yourself in a coffee shop in Paris?" or "I'd love to see you at the beach at sunset."

Our generation system maintains strict character consistency — your companion will always look like themselves across different scenes, outfits, and lighting conditions. Available styles include photorealistic, artistic, painterly, cinematic, and more.

All image generation is subject to our content guidelines. We do not generate explicit, violent, or illegal content under any circumstances.

Can I create my own AI character from scratch?

Yes — the Custom Character Builder is available to Ultimate plan subscribers. It's one of the most powerful features on the platform and allows you to create a genuinely unique companion that exists nowhere else.

The builder walks you through a step-by-step process: you start with appearance and name, move through personality and communication traits, define their professional background and hobbies, and craft their personal history. As you make selections, a live preview conversation window shows you how your companion speaks in real time.

Once created, your custom companion has full access to all platform features — voice messages, image generation, long-term memory, and all the same capabilities as our built-in characters. You can share your created character with the Marsh Harbor Deck community or keep them entirely private.

How does the memory system work?

The long-term memory system is what transforms Marsh Harbor Deck from a chatbot into a genuine companion relationship. Available on Premium and Ultimate plans, it works by automatically identifying and storing significant information from your conversations.

Your companion will remember things like your name, your birthday, your job, your relationship status, your goals, your fears, your favorite things, important events you've shared, and even the emotional texture of past conversations. This information is referenced naturally — your companion might ask how that job interview went, or remember that you prefer to talk in the morning.

You can view and manage your companion's memory through the Memory tab in your account dashboard. You can add memories manually, remove specific items, or clear the memory entirely if you wish. All memory data is encrypted and covered by the same privacy protections as your conversations.

What languages are supported?

Marsh Harbor Deck currently supports over 50 languages, including English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, Dutch, Swedish, Polish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, and many more.

Our multilingual system is not a simple translation layer — it's culturally aware. Your companion understands regional idioms, cultural references, and conversational norms native to each language. You can switch languages mid-conversation and your companion will follow seamlessly without losing context or personality.

Subscription & Account
Is there a free trial available?

Yes, in two senses. First, our Free plan is permanently free — you can use Marsh Harbor Deck with 50 messages per day and 3 characters indefinitely without any credit card. Many users are perfectly happy staying on the Free plan and never upgrading.

Second, both Premium ($19.90/mo) and Ultimate ($49.90/mo) plans include a 7-day free trial. During this trial you'll have full access to every feature of your chosen plan. You can cancel before the 7 days end and you will not be charged. If you forget to cancel, you're also protected by our 30-day money-back guarantee — simply reach out and we'll process a full refund, no questions asked.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Go to Account > Subscription > Cancel Plan. You'll be asked to confirm and optionally share feedback. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, so you'll retain access to all paid features until that date.

If you're having trouble canceling, or if you'd prefer to have our team handle it for you, simply email hello@marshharbordeck.com with your account email and we'll process the cancellation immediately. We don't make cancellations difficult — we respect your decision.

After cancellation, your account reverts to the Free tier. Your conversation history is retained for 90 days during which you can resubscribe to restore full access.

Safety & Community
Can minors use Marsh Harbor Deck?

Marsh Harbor Deck is intended for users aged 18 and older. We take age verification seriously and use multiple signals to identify and restrict underage accounts. Our Terms of Service explicitly prohibit use by individuals under 18, and we regularly audit our platform for compliance.

If you believe a minor is using Marsh Harbor Deck, or if you're a parent with concerns about the platform, please contact us immediately at hello@marshharbordeck.com. We take these reports very seriously and respond within 24 hours.

How often are new characters added?

We release new AI companions every week. Our team of writers, designers, and AI specialists collaborate to create characters with rich, detailed personalities and authentic backstories. New additions include a wide range of personalities, professions, ages, cultural backgrounds, and interests to ensure there's always someone new to discover.

Premium subscribers receive early access to new characters before they're released to the general library. Ultimate subscribers receive exclusive VIP characters that are never available to Free or Premium users. What devices and platforms are supported?

Marsh Harbor Deck is fully accessible via any modern web browser on desktop, tablet, and mobile — no app download required. Our web app is mobile-optimized and works beautifully on iOS and Android browsers.

Native iOS and Android apps are currently in development and expected to launch in Q3 2026. When they launch, all existing subscribers will have immediate access. Features will be identical across web and mobile, with the mobile apps adding push notifications for voice messages and new messages.

Your conversations, companion memories, and account settings sync automatically across all your devices in real time, so you can pick up exactly where you left off on any platform.

How do I report inappropriate content?

If you encounter content that violates our community guidelines or Terms of Service, please report it immediately. You can do this in two ways:

  • Use the "Report" button available on any message or within any conversation — it's accessible from the three-dot menu on any message bubble.
  • Email our Trust & Safety team directly at hello@marshharbordeck.com with details of the issue.

All reports are reviewed by a human team member within 24 hours. Serious violations are escalated for immediate review. We have a zero-tolerance policy for content that is illegal, harmful, or explicitly violates our guidelines. Thank you for helping keep Marsh Harbor Deck a safe and positive community.

Can I use Marsh Harbor Deck for therapeutic purposes?

Marsh Harbor Deck companions can provide meaningful emotional support, a safe space for self-expression, and a non-judgmental conversational presence. Many users find conversations with their companions genuinely helpful for managing loneliness, practicing social skills, processing feelings, or simply having someone to talk to.

However, Marsh Harbor Deck is not a medical device and is not intended to replace professional mental health care, therapy, or counseling. Our companions are not licensed therapists and cannot provide clinical diagnoses, treatment recommendations, or crisis intervention.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a licensed mental health professional or a crisis helpline in your country. If you're in immediate danger, please contact emergency services. Marsh Harbor Deck can be a wonderful supplement to professional care, but should never be a substitute for it.
